Lifeguarding with Professional Rescuer (Blended Learning)

Dates: 
April 11
th (5:30-10:00pm), 12th and 13th (8:00am-7:30pm) Current Staff Only
April 18th (5:30-10:00pm), 19th and 20th (8:00am-7:30pm) Current Staff Only
May 2nd (5:30-10:00pm), 3rd  and 4th  (8:00am-7:30pm) Current Staff/Public
May 9th (5:30-10:00pm), 10th  and 11th (8:00am-7:30pm) Current Staff/Public


Location:  Dellinger Park Pool and Conference Room
Ages: 15 or over
Age Control Date: Age on or before the final scheduled session of the course
Registration Dates:  March 3 - Thursday before the class begins or class is full, whichever comes first
Fee: $225 

Participants should come daily with a swimsuit, towel, change of clothes, snacks, and plenty to drink for hydration. 

Candidates must successfully pass the prerequisites before enrollment. (Make arrangements with the Aquatics Manager before enrolling).
  1. Be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course
  2. Swim-Tread-Swim with a total distances of 200 yards, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used. Candidates will start by jumping in to water where they can not stand, recover to the surface and start swimming the first 150 yards continuously either using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. After touching the wall, candidates will move off the wall immediately and begin the tread for 2 minutes, using only the legs (egg-beater, or frog kick is recommended). Candidates can place their hands under the armpits, behind their back, or slightly above the water. After 2 minutes, candidates will immediately go in to a continuous swim for the remaining 50 yards using the methods mention before.
  3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, and 40 seconds: Swim goggles are not allowed. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Surface dive, feet-first or headfirst, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.  Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface.  Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Lifeguard Recertification Class (Blended Learning)

Dates: 
March 23rd (8am-7:30pm), 12th and 13th (8am-7:30pm) Current Staff Only, open to the public after March 2nd
April 20th (8am-7:30pm), Current Staff Only, open to the public after March 30th
April 26th (8am-7:30pm), Current Staff Only, open to the public after March 30th

Water Safety Instructor Class (Blended Learning)

Ages: 16 or over
Age Control Date: Age on or before the final scheduled session
Registration: March 4 - Thursday before the class begins or class is full, whichever comes first
Fee: $300 

Participants should come daily with a swimsuit, towel, change of clothes, snacks, and plenty to drink for hydration. 

Candidates must possess a current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and successfully pass the prerequisites before enrollment. (make arrangements with the Aquatics Manager before enrolling).
  1. Be at least 16 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills:
    1. Front Crawl-25 yards
    2. Back Crawl-25 yards
    3. Breaststroke-25 yards
    4. Elementary Backstroke-25 yards
    5. Sidestroke-25 yards
    6. Butterfly-15 yards
    1. Swim the following strokes consistent with the Stroke Performance Charts, Level 4:
  1. Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling).
  2. Tread water for 1 minute.

Lifeguard Instructor Class (Blended Learning)

August 8th (6-9pm), 9th (8:30am-6:30pm), and 10th (9:30am-6:30pm) Staff/Public

Refunds:  A $25.00 administrative fee will be deducted from all refunds. No refunds will be given after the class begins. All refunds must be approved by the Cartersville Parks & Recreation Director.
